Next step made on Penrhos Leisure Village

CG Recovery has launched a consultation to inform a reserved matters planning application for the 500-lodge Anglesey proposal.

As reported by Place in January, LSH is looking to find a buyer for the site on behalf of administrator CG&Co, a process that remains ongoing.

CG&Co and its CG Recovery division took responsibility for the Penrhos site following the administration of DJC Leisure – a vehicle associated with Seventy Ninth Group – last year.

Situated off London Road, close to Holyhead, the site is adjacent to the Penrhos coastal park. Outline planning permission was established in 2016, approving the principle of leisure development.

The firm is now looking to flesh out proposals with detailed design, including layout, landscaping, appearance and environmental management.

Importantly, the plans also include provision for Cae Glas, a separate part of the island previously closed off to public access, which could be opened up as a public nature reserve.

Updated plans include:

  • Up to 500 lodges and cottages designed to sit sensitively in the landscape
  • A reception and leisure hub
  • Farmer’s market building, cafes and restaurants
  • Indoor leisure facilities and upgraded visitor amenities
  • Managed public access to Cae Glas through the creation of a nature reserve as well as continued public enjoyment of Penrhos from the coastal path.

Daniel Richardson, partner at CG Recovery, said: “We encourage everyone who is interested in the future of Penrhos and Cae Glas to find out more about the updated plans for Penrhos Leisure Village.

“The updated plans for the site are wholly in accordance with the outline planning permission and are designed to provide a modern leisure offering sat sensitively within the coastal landscape.

“Penrhos Leisure Village will create long-term, local employment, supporting stable, year-round work for local people. It will also secure new public access to Cae Glas, delivering a high-quality natural space with walking routes, green areas and opportunities for quiet recreation.”

Proposals at various stages have met with some local opposition – however, Anglesey County Council stressed in 2025 that it is broadly supportive of “sensitive and inclusive” development proposals for the land.

Kingmoor Properties vehicle Land & Lakes secured the outline consent in 2016 that has set the tone.

Seventy Ninth’s plan, revealed in January last year, was for 492 “premium-quality” lodges. Among the amenities trailed were a restaurant, swimming pool, spa, gym and pitches for youth cricket and football, along with outdoor tennis courts, to be made available to local residents.

The new pitch differs in that it leads with “a landscape-led approach” featuring small clusters of lodges within a layout following landform and ecological corridors. Retaining and maintaining woodlands and the coast path are highlighted, along with sensitive lighting to protect the dark skies setting.

Two public consultation sessions will be held next week.
