Work starts on £3.6m Barrow offices

Thomas Armstrong Construction has kicked off the first phase of a flexible office development at Barrow’s Waterfront Business Park, bringing forward 15,000 sq ft over two blocks.

Backed by Barrow Council, the development will initially provide two blocks of flexible space, while a third block also has planning consent and will be delivered in a second phase in future.

Designed by Kendal-based Mellor Architects, the space will be targeted at start-up companies and other companies looking to relocate to larger premises, in a move that the council hopes will address a shortage of business space in the town.

The scheme is funded partly by Barrow Council with the remainder met by the European Regional Development Fund.

Cumbria Council has also supported the scheme by providing site remediation, which completed in late 2017.

Thomas Armstrong Construction secured a deal to build the development on a competitive tender, and works started last month, with a view to completing just before Christmas 2019.
