Whittaker Intu stake nudges £1bn

John Whittaker added nearly 1.5m shares in shopping centre group Intu to his holding over Christmas, pushing his stake to a value of £950m.

The non-executive chairman of Intu bought 1.44m shares through six different nominated companies on 30 December 2014.

The transactions boosted his stake in the mall owner to 22%. Intu had a market capitalisation of £4.32bn at close of trading on Monday. Peel Group owner Whittaker is the largest shareholder in Intu, owner or part-owner of 15 UK shopping centres including the Trafford Centre and Manchester Arndale.

Last month, Intu exchanged contracts to buy the Puerto Venecia shopping centre and retail park in Zaragoza, Spain for €451m.
