Taylor Wimpey in for planning on brownfield Audenshaw site

HOW Planning has submitted a full planning application on behalf of Taylor Wimpey for 169 homes at the former Mono Pumps site in Audenshaw, Tameside.

Isla Longmuir, senior planner at HOW Planning, said: “Mono Pumps moved to new premises some time ago, leaving this site with a lot of potential for redevelopment. We are hoping for a positive outcome, which would allow Taylor Wimpey to make a start with its transformation as soon as possible.”

Most of the buildings at the 12-acre former industrial complex, close to Guide Bridge station on Martin Street to the east of Audenshaw town centre, have now been demolished.

The application includes 151 three- or four-bedroom houses, along with 18 apartments. Materials issued to local residents and businesses by Taylor Wimpey ahead of the application say that the project could bring in approximately £177,000 of council tax revenue a year to the local authority, on top of a New Homes Bonus of approximately £1m.

Volume house builders struggle to shrug off claims of poor quality design with yet another example of cut de sac fed noddy boxes, no coordinated green or amenity spaces and a general lack of ambition. Please consider something more progressive, it doesn’t have to cost more to construct a proper neighbourhood but can offer a much better place to live.
