Street party planned for The Rock’s first birthday

A day of fashion shows and live music will mark the first anniversary of Bury's new shopping district on Saturday 16 July.

The event will have a floral theme and be kicked off with a parade of local school children and community groups, carrying hand-made flowers, which have been designed by the children prior to the event.

There will then be a rolling schedule of seasonal fashion showcases and live music throughout the day which begins at 11am and will run through to 5pm. Retailers will present their summer ranges and each catwalk show will be accompanied by a high-wire performance above the main stage.

The Rock is teaming up with the Ramsbottom Festival to design the musical line-up and give visitors a preview of the bands scheduled to perform at the festival in September.

In the lead up to the event, The Rock has launched a partnership with charity, the Groundwork Trust, to revamp St John's Gardens. Groundwork has redesigned the gardens with the aim of making them more attractive to visitors and increase dwell time within the scheme. As part of the partnership, The Rock has also launched a competition for a primary school to win a new garden worth £5,000.

The Rock is asset managed by Hammerson on behalf of Lloyds Banking Group. Hammerson said 10m people visited the centre in the first 12 months, exceeding the target of 9m. The scheme contains 600,000 sq ft of retail, which is 89% let by area, alongside residential and leisure space.

The Rock was designed by BDP and built by Laing O'Rourke.
