Stena Line reports Irish ferry uplift

Stena Line has seen passenger numbers increase on the Birkenhead-Belfast route since purchasing the route and ships last summer.

The ferry company said June 2012 volumes were up across all measures compared to June 2011:

  • Passenger vehicles: 7,577 (2011: 6,773)
  • Car passengers: 15,838 (14,342)
  • Foot passengers: 2,473 (2,276)

Richard Horswill, Route Director for Stena Line Liverpool – Belfast route "A like-for-like monthly comparison between June 2011 and June 2012 shows an increase across the board in vehicles, car and foot passengers travelling on the route. This is as a direct result of the investment over the last number of months with the £4m refurbishment of the Stena Mersey and Stena Lagan as well as a focus on customer services, which includes ongoing staff development training which Stena Line has extensive experience of delivering across Europe."

Earlier this month, Stena Line expanded its online booking system in partnership with the Travel Gateway, operator of the biggest ferry portal, aferry.co.uk, to allow users of stenaline.co.uk to book additional ferry trips on non-Stena Line operated routes.

Orla Noonan, head of marketing at Stena Line, said: "As one of Europe's leading ferry companies, our aim is to always improve our service. The partnership with aferry.co.uk will provide Stena Line customers with an even greater choice of routes when it comes to planning their trip – all in just one search on stenaline.co.uk."
