Seddon starts on Stockport housing

The construction firm and housebuilder has begun work on a £6.5m housing development in Stockport, where it is building 59 properties for the Viaduct Housing Partnership at the disused St Thomas’ Hospital site on Flint Street.

The homes are a mix of two- and three-bedroom apartments and houses, with both shared ownership and rental properties available. There are to be four purpose-built properties for disabled residents. The Viaduct Housing Partnership comprises Stockport Council and housing association Stockport Homes.

Work on the scheme is now underway and is set to be completed by December 2018.

Cllr Sheila Bailey, cabinet member for communities and housing, said: “The purpose of the Viaduct Housing Partnership between Stockport Council and Stockport Homes is to develop as many affordable homes as possible.

“We are very pleased to be working with Seddon on this new development. The need for affordable homes is greater than ever.”

Duncan Williams, housing director at Seddon, said: “This is a really exciting development on a site which has been derelict for well over 10 years. These unused pockets of land are fantastic development opportunities and it’s satisfying to be able to transform them into thriving communities.

“At Seddon we understand the positive impact that quality housing has on communities so that is exactly what we aim to deliver here in Stockport.”
