PureGym to expand Manchester offering with First Street branch
The fitness chain is to launch its fourth city centre outlet with a 13,000 sq ft gym at 8 First Street, following approval from the council.
The Leeds-based brand is among the UK’s largest gym operators with more than 230 branches and one million members. Its other central Manchester gyms are located at Market Street, Urban Exchange and Spinningfields.
The latest city centre branch will occupy two ground floor units at the 175,000sq ft office building, which are both currently vacant. The combined floor plate of units 1B and 1C is 6,600 sq ft but this will be doubled by the inclusion of a mezzanine floor, according to the planning application.
Developed as part of Ask Real Estate’s wider First Street scheme, the building, home to firms including Gazprom and Odeon Cinemas, completed in August 2019, some two years later than its targeted handover date.
The building’s original completion date was September 2017, but its delivery was impacted by numerous delays. For example, the main contractor Carillion collapsed in January 2018, leaving the developer without a construction team.
Rayner Rowen was then appointed to complete the build on a construction management basis.
Metis Real Estate is the letting agent for 8 First Street.
