A 1,100-space car park and hotel, 50,000 sq ft of offices, and 200 homes in the Green Quarter were all approved by Manchester City Council’s planning committee yesterday.

- Developer: Anglesource, run by B&M bosses the Arora brothers

Also discussed were plans for the development of 40 apartments on Union Street in the Northern Quarter, however a decision on the scheme was postponed until after a site visit.

Silk Works is great. Although I’m intrigued by the Bruntwood car park/hotel as well. Nice to see some unique and interesting designs for a change. The Cheetham Hill design is so dull and looks very cheap, but then, it is on the edge of the equally dull Greenquarter.

OMG•••••these three buildings are beautiful. I’m pleased to see that MCC Planning Committee have finally woken up to the fact that the City Centre is top heavy with glass/concrete ANYCITY office & residential developments which all look too similar. I’m no fan of the Quakers political objectives but I’m still upset by the destruction of the impressive 1932 Colonial looking Quakers building to make way for Fred Done’s ugly concrete/glass ANYCITY behemoth••••• I am particularly amazed by the beauty of the proposed Circle Square Car Park/Hotel. This will become an iconic Manchester landmark.
