Pizza parlour plans for Penwortham water tower

Plans for a pizzeria to open in the base of Penwortham Water Tower in South Ribble are set to be discussed at South Ribble Council’s planning committee next month.

Restauranteur Luciano Ciavatta’s plans to convert an empty unit previously occupied by estate agent Reeds & Rains into a takeaway have been met with derision by councillors.

South Ribble Council’s chief executive Gary Hall lives above the space within the five-storey tower. However, in objecting to the scheme at a recent council meeting, Cllr David Howarth said it wasn’t about “who lives there. It’s not something we want.”

The Penwortham Water Tower was built in 1890 by Canon Lawrence Rawstorne. It was later converted into a residential space, and was restored and refurbished last year. Attempts to list the building in 1970 previously fell through.
