Peel: Holiday Inn at Media City UK opens in October

Peel Leisure has confirmed the Holiday Inn hotel at Media City UK will be opening in October this year.

InterContinental Hotels Group signed a franchise agreement with Peel last October for a 218-bed Holiday Inn hotel to open within the Salford Quays development.

As tipped on Place, during a site visit of Media City UK in July, keys will be handed to the Holiday Inn on 24 September.

The hotel will be equipped with a bar, known as the Hub Bar, a restaurant called The Green Room Restaurant, which will serve British cuisine, and meeting rooms, as well as gym facilities.

Bryan Gray, chairman of Peel Media, said: "The Holiday Inn at Media City UK is adjacent to the largest new studios in Europe, making it a real convenience for TV and film professionals using the facilities. In addition it offers visitors to Manchester and Salford Quays excellent value accommodation in a vibrant waterfront environment."

As well as being accessed easily by the motorway network, construction is well underway on a Metrolink stop at Media City UK, located by the public square in front of the studio blocks and BBC offices.

The BBC will move over 2,500 staff to Media City UK from 2011 onwards and the University of Salford have committed to a new campus at Media City UK, which will accommodate more than 1,500 students and staff.

Developed by Peel Media, the first phase is spread over 36 acres but Peel said there is potential to utilise the entire 200-acre waterfront site over the next decade.

Stayed here last week shortly after opening – great stay, friendly staff and groovy decor. Bright rooms and a fab menu! Top location for BBC and Salford Shopping. Trafford Centre just round the corner.

oh dear oh dear! What has happened to the Green Room! We had a truly wonderful meal in November but now it is like a roadside cafe but indoors. We thought we had found a gem but it is now a great disappointment!!
