Partners team up again on Wyre housing

A joint venture between Liverpool firms BXB Land Solutions and Promenade Estates has put forward proposals for a residential development in Thornton Cleveleys, Lancashire.

The partners, who in March secured consent for 1,100 homes on a former glassworks site in St Helens, are seeking outline planning permission to build housing on a 10-acre site on Fleetwood Road North, which they acquired in February for £2m from supermarket group J Sainsbury.

Although the volume of housing is yet to be finalised, Place North West understands the plans at this stage are for around 140 homes. The site is allocated for housing by Wyre Council.

Peter Tooher, executive director at Nexus Planning, the consultant for the scheme, said: “We’ve worked very hard with Wyre Council and other statutory partners to devise a strategy that will bring this longstanding commitment forward for development, meeting local housing needs.

“Our outline proposals reflect the opportunities of the site and incorporates Springfield Burn as a wildlife corridor as part of a wider flood management strategy.”

Brock Carmichael Architects has designed the scheme, with other professional advisors including Curtins for transport, ERAP for ecology and Urban Green for landscape architecture and arboriculture services.

The proposed site sits close to the Iron Horse pub and a large commercial development. A public consultation is now open and runs until 23 July.

The site, described by the land promoters as low-grade non-agricultural grassland, is to be accessed from the feeder road running along the northern edge of the site from the roundabout on Fleetwood Road North.
