NML picks Mace Group as museum project manager

National Museums Liverpool has chosen the Mace Group to project manage the construction of the new Museum of Liverpool at Mann Island.

The consultancy and construction firm had already been working as an adviser and design coordinator on the Museum of Liverpool project.

The new museum has been designed to replace the former Museum of Liverpool Life, which was located in the old Pilotage and Salvage Association buildings on Liverpool's Waterfront. The old museum had become incapable of coping with the growing number of visitors to the museum.

Last month, it was announced NML, backed with funding from the Co-operative Bank, selected Ener-G Combined Power (Ener-G) as its preferred partner for procurement and installation of environmentally-friendly energy facilities for the project.

The Heritage Lottery Fund awarded the scheme with £11m of investment to fit out the building in July last year.

The new museum is due to be completed and commissioned towards the end of 2010.
