New hotel planned for Castlefield

Formroom Architects has submitted plans on behalf of developer Iliad Group for a new boutique hotel on Liverpool Road in Manchester city centre.

The project involves the refurbishment of two Grade 2-listed buildings plus a new extension opposite the Manchester Museum of Science & Industry.

Formroom hotelIliad plans a 39-bed hotel split between the converted Georgian building and a new annex. Many of the bedrooms will contain original fireplaces and feature split level accommodation. There will also be a restaurant and bar on the ground floor.

Tim Groom, Formroom managing director, said: "The Liverpool Road hotel has been a fantastic project to work on. As well as the pride associated with working on such an interesting scheme in our home city, the project presented a number of exciting challenges, including the conversion and conservation of a listed building, and creating a new build extension that complements the existing period architecture."

A planning decision is expected in May from Manchester City Council.
