MMU opens Birley Fields design contest

Architectural firms are competing to design the new 220,000 sq ft Birley Fields campus for Manchester Metropolitan University.

The £73m campus will house the relocated Institute of Education and the Faculty of Health, Psychology & Social Care from the current Didsbury and Elizabeth Gaskell campuses.

MMU said the winning design team will include architect, structural engineer and mechanical and electrical Engineer. A project manager and quantity surveyor will be appointed separately.

The architectural project will include public realm works.

Five firms will be shortlisted before the winner is chosen. Drivers Jonas is advising MMU.
