Maritime agency shortlists Merseyside for HQ

Defra has announced the shortlist for the location of the Marine Management Organisation, with Merseyside fighting it out against six other destinations.

The MMO is being established as part of the Marine Bill and will be the centre of marine expertise for the UK, in charge of fisheries, conservation and licensing.

Around 200 jobs are expected to be created by the new agency.

The shortlist in full is as follows:

  • Merseyside
  • Tyneside (Tyne and Wear)
  • East Riding of Yorks
  • Lowestoft/Great Yarmouth
  • Carrick
  • Plymouth
  • London

A series of site visits will now take place before a decision is made. KPMG is advising Defra.
