Developer Urban Splash and partner Town Centre Securities are hoping to submit a planning application for the creation of up to 30 loft apartments in Brownsfield Mill by early next year.

Urban Splash signed a development agreement for the 45,000 sq ft grade two-listed mill in August, and last month announced that Stephenson Studio would be the architect.

The number of flats to be included is yet to be decided, however the building is expected to accommodate up to 30, with the largest totalling 4,000 sq ft.

Brownsfield Mill on Great Ancoats Street forms part of TCS’ Piccadilly Basin regeneration area. One of the few remaining undeveloped mills in Manchester, the structure includes red brick, timber, large windows, and a former boiler house. A canal once ran through the building, and after it ceased operations as a mill, the warehouse became home to aviation company Avro.

Subject to planning approval, the scheme could start construction by the end of next year.

The team behind Brownsfield includes Civic Engineers and environmental engineer Max Fordham.
