Greendale appointed to Accrington empty homes scheme

A joint venture between empty homes developer PlaceFirst and Together Housing Group has appointed construction firm Greendale to deliver phase one of a £15m regeneration scheme in Accrington, Lancashire.

Woodnook is one of the largest empty home projects in the UK and will see the delivery of 131 terraced homes.

Greendale, a specialist refurbishment subsidiary of affordable housing construction and development firm Southdale, will refurbish and remodel three streets of terraced housing to deliver 71 homes as part of the first phase.

The £6.5m project, supported by Hyndburn Council, will see the empty two-up two-down Victorian terraces redeveloped into energy efficient two-, three-, and four-bedroom family homes.

The completed properties will be available for private rent. A limited number of homes will be demolished to make way for a resident garden and additional off-street parking.

Two show homes have recently been completed.

Preliminary site works have begun, with main works set to start in June 2014. Phase one is due for completion in summer 2015.

The scheme is supported by a Get Britain Building loan from the Homes & Communities Agency secured by PlaceFirst.
