Fylde signs off £35m Lancashire golf resort

Pure Leisure Group has been given permission to build Larbreck Golf and Leisure Village, a scheme comprising 495 holiday lodges, a 102-bedroom hotel and a nine-hole golf course on 166 acres off Garstang Road east of Poulton-le-Fylde.

The redevelopment of the site, close to Windy Harbour Holiday Park, has been in the pipeline for more than 30 years.

In 1990, outline plans for an 18-hole golf course and clubhouse, 120-bedroom hotel, and 40 timeshare units were approved. However, the plans did not progress.

A refreshed version of those plans was then approved in 2003 and some preliminary work was carried out.

Pure Leisure Group’s scheme, approved just before Christmas, features almost 500 holiday lodges, 340 to the east of Windy Harbour Road and 155 to the west.

The golf course, designed by Westenborg Golf Course Architects, would comprise nine greens with different tee positionings that allow golfers to play nine or 18 holes.

The hotel would offer more than 100 rooms across four storeys. Next to the hotel, a £12m leisure facility featuring a gym and swimming pool is proposed.

Pure Leisure, headed up by John Morphet, operates 16 holiday parks across the country, and Larbreck Golf and Leisure Village could add up to £2.5m each year to the local economy, the developer claims.

De Pol Associates is the planning consultant and Preston-based MCK Associates provided architectural and design support.

Wow….. this has been a slow burner. I remember the signs going up for this at the junction of Fleetwood Road and Garstang Road when I was a kid. That must have been 35(ish) years ago.
