Wes Erlam is to join Legal & General Capital as director of urban regeneration as of 6 April, as the fund manager looks to increase its involvement in public-private partnerships and the ‘levelling up’ agenda.

Erlam is a former development director at regional regeneration specialist Muse Developments, who subsequently became managing director of Morgan Sindall Investments, a division of Muse’s parent Morgan Sindall Group. He worked for the London-listed construction firm for 12 years and has more than 20 years’ experience in development, investment and regeneration.

In his most recent role within Morgan Sindall’s investment division, Erlam was responsible for spearheading UK-wide public-private partnership development activity and focusing on large-scale, mixed-tenure projects, including holding several board positions within its partnerships.

At L&G, Erlam will work within the alternative asset platform L&G Capital, helping to structure “progressive” public-private partnerships and providing the investment needed to help cities adapt, change and innovate, while providing returns to L&G’s clients, the firm said in a statement.

L&G is currently invested across 16 UK towns and cities, and Erlam’s role will have a national remit.

Kerrigan Procter, chief executive of Legal & General Capital, said: “Further strengthening our asset creation capabilities, Wes brings with him significant experience in the delivery of complex urban regeneration projects and structuring innovative public-private sector partnerships.

“Legal & General is in a position to bring together long-term sources of capital with its deep asset creation, investment and structuring capabilities. We are investing billions of pounds in this way across the UK, in places such as Oxford, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield and Cardiff, working with local authority partners, as well as central government bodies and world-leading universities.

“But as our platform expands, so do our ambitions. Wes will lead this next stage of growth and delivery.”

Erlam added: “I regard Legal & General as the most innovative and forward-thinking investor in the UK. As a leading force for change in the built environment, it has established an incredible range of genuinely transformational regeneration projects, and I look forward to working with the existing public and private sector partners across the portfolio, while seeking to expand the reach of the business into new locations.”
