Elan scoops up stalled Fylde housing

The housebuilder has acquired a 36-home project in Wrea Green out of administration, after its previous developer Hollinwood Homes collapsed in 2019.

The part-built site lies to the west of Bryning Lane in the Fylde coast village in Lancashire. Hollinwood had begun building the development of luxury family homes known as Parkwood Chase, but appointed administrators at PWC in October 2019 causing the scheme to stall.

Elan Homes declined to reveal the purchase price and said the site had been marketed by Landwood Group on behalf of the administrators. Cheshire-based Elan said it plans to restart construction in the coming weeks and release the first homes for sale in the summer.

It is the second Lancashire site acquired by Elan this year as it pursues a strategy to expand its operations. Earlier this month, it acquired 10 acres at Redwood Point in Marton Moss near Lytham in Blackpool. The development known as Redwood Gardens is planned to deliver 86 homes.

Philip Palmer, land director of Elan Homes in the North, said: “Moving into Lancashire is part of Elan’s growth strategy, as we look to expand in terms of the geographic area we cover and the total number of homes we build.

“Between them, our two new sites in Blackpool and Wrea Green will deliver more than 100 new homes, helping to satisfy demand and keep the market moving in those specific areas of Lancashire.”

He added: “Wrea Green is a sought-after village and we appreciate the existing residents’ frustrations at work there having stalled under the previous owners.

“We’re eager to start construction at the earliest opportunity in order to complete the site and provide the high-quality housing people want and need.”

The site in Wrea Green is bounded by open countryside on two sides. The central village green and other local amenities are a five-minute walk away, while the town of Lytham is four miles away.
