Dandara unveils 1,000-unit plan for stalled site

Property developer Dandara is set to begin public consultation on revised plans for a residential-led development on a site between the River Irwell and Chapel Street in Salford.

Local residents are being invited to a public exhibition on Tuesday 24 June 2014, between 3pm and 8pm, at the Lowry Hotel to view the plans and meet members of the development team.

The site benefits from an existing planning consent for a similar scheme which was never progressed beyond the drawing board because of the economic downturn. Dandara's revised proposal will create 995 new homes in a collection of four buildings set around courtyard spaces. Walkways will be established to improve pedestrian links to the riverside and city centre.

The proposals include:

• 995 apartments in a range of sizes from studio to three-bed
• Car parking
• Landscaped courtyard spaces which will be available for public use
• Commercial space

Martin Brown, senior development manager at Dandara, said: "We believe our revised proposals for new apartments and commercial space will revitalise this site and play a major role in the ongoing regeneration of the Chapel Street corridor and central Salford."

Dandara's development team will use feedback from the consultation to shape its proposal before a detailed planning application is submitted to Salford City Council later this year.
