Dachser to open new Northern base in Rochdale
European logistics company Dachser is to open a 56,000 sq ft base at Rochdale’s Kingsway Business Park to replace its existing facility in the town.
Currently based at Chichester Street, the move will see Dachser relocate to a purpose-built facility, which is currently being delivered by main contractor Winvic.
It employs 106 people in Rochdale, which is its fourth UK site alongside facilities in Northampton, Dartford, and Bristol, and the company said it expected to “create many jobs over the next five years” in Rochdale.
The facility is at Kingsway Business Park off Junction 21 of the M62, and will act as a hub for Dachser’s operations in the North of England.
Nick Richardson, managing director at Wilson Bowden Developments, said: “This is another exciting development for Kingsway Business Park, one of the north’s most important business locations. Dachser’s choice of Kingsway as a hub for their North of England operations is testament to the success of the business park which has now attracted four major new occupiers in the last twelve months.
“We worked with Dachser to ensure that their new facility at Kingsway was carefully designed to meet their bespoke requirements. Our main contractor Winvic is already on site and we will provide the company with a state of the art modern logistics facility to move into later this year.”
Mark Rollinson, managing director of Dachser UK added: “Our significant investment is evidence of Dachser’s commitment to the UK market and our optimistic view on the future of both import and export trade with the rest of Europe.”
Winvic is also on site delivering a 75,000 sq ft distribution facility for door and MDF manufacturer Trade Mouldings, which is set to open next year.
Once it completes, this will add to the 3.5m sq ft already developed at Kingsway Business Park. East Midlands-based Winvic recently completed an expansion of JD Sports’ facility at the site, while other tenants include Asda, Eon, Cleland McIver Lifestyle, and Source Bio-Science.
There have been two major lettings the past 12 months totalling 90,000 sq ft, with Nobilia and Gemalto both taking space at the park.
P3 and JLL are the appointed agents for Kingsway Business Park, which is being delivered by a joint venture partnership of Wilson Bowden, Homes England, Rochdale Council, and the Rochdale Development Agency.
