Curtins relocates HQ

The Liverpool-headquartered engineering and transport planning consultancy has moved into the former Merseytravel office at 51-57 Tithebarn Street.

Established in 1960 from the home of founder Bill Curtin, the business moved to Rodney Street, going on to open 13 further offices in the UK. For the last 20 years it has been based at Curtin House on Columbus Quay. The business has had the 11,000 sq ft building remodelled ahead of its 60 staff moving in.

Projects that Curtins has worked on in the city include the renovation of the Albert Dock in 1982 to more recent projects including Paddington Village, Pall Mall, Liverpool Waters, and Wirral Waters.

Curtins currently targets work in seven specialisms: civils & structures, transport planning, environmental, infrastructures, geotechnical, conservation & heritage and principal designer.

Chief executive Rob Melling said: “We’re really excited to be taking over this great space in Liverpool City Centre where the Curtins story began 60 years ago. I think that Bill, our founder, would be very proud of this achievement – I certainly am. Our national team is now nearly 430 people strong and this move is symbolic of that progress.”

The office was opened by Liverpool’s city Mayor Joe Anderson. He said: “Curtins is a great Liverpool business success story and its growth over the decades is a shining beacon in how investing in and nurturing local talent will reap its rewards.

“I was honoured to be asked to open their new headquarters and help celebrate the start of the next exciting chapter in their history. Curtins is playing a huge role in the transformation of Liverpool and these new headquarters are a huge statement on their commitment to Liverpool and their confidence in the ongoing regeneration of the city.”
