COP26 | Examining the sustainability of brick

As we push for net zero development, more and more attention is being paid to building materials. Wienerberger joins the Place North West COP26 podcast series to talk about the green credentials of bricks, as well as what the company is doing to mitigate its carbon footprint.

We are not stopping construction anytime soon, so if the country is going to meet its net zero ambitions it is imperative that developers make educated decisions about the materials they use in their buildings. While much has been said about the benefits of timber, developers shouldn’t discount the merits of brick according to Stephanie Palmer, head of sustainability with Wienerberger UK.

Wienerberger supports and enables the construction industry to create a better future for the built environment. The company does this by providing outstanding, sustainable building solutions, long-lasting partnerships and exceptional, enduring careers. Together with their clients, Wienerberger is future-building.

Listen to the podcast to hear Palmer make the case for brick and to share ways in which companies are transforming how they make the material in an effort to reduce the amount of carbon emissions it generates.

This episode is part of Place North West’s COP26 podcast series, which looks at sustainability solutions within the property industry ahead of the UN Climate Change conference in Glasgow this November.

In each episode, guests will share actionable insights and essential evidence-based advice drawing on lessons learned from their work moving towards net zero carbon. Listen to more of our COP26 podcasts.
