Centros returns with new plans for Lancaster

Developer Centros has resubmitted plans for its 500,000 sq ft retail scheme, Castle View, in Lancaster city centre.

The £150m scheme was revised from an earlier application, submitted last year, following feedback from residents, English Heritage and architectrual watchdog CABE.

If approved, the project would deliver 450,000 sq ft of retail and leisure including a 97,500 sq ft Debenhams and 179 homes.

The retail element was reduced by 14% and the number of homes increased by 20%. The site of the Debenhams department store also switched from the south side to the north.

David Lewis, associate director at Centros, said: "Following our first application and our public exhibition last July, we've had important feedback from a variety of sources.

"This extension of Lancaster's city centre and regeneration of this site are essential if the city is not to lose out to the continuing expansion of shopping in Preston and other towns in the North West."

The scheme would open in 2012.
