BDP lighting designer wins national award

Laura Bayliss, head of the lighting team at BDP in Manchester, picked up the award for Young Consultant of 2009 at a national awards ceremony organised by New Civil Engineer and the Association for Consultancy and Engineering.

Bayliss, 29, was the youngest person ever to be made director at BDP, the country's largest architecture and design company.

Judges said she was "an inspiration to her team and a real asset to her company."

Bayliss joined BDP's Manchester studio three years ago and has taken the team from one lighting designer to nine, making it the largest lighting design practice in the north of England. Her recent work includes lighting Liverpool One for Grosvenor. She said: "I feel extremely honoured to receive such an accolade and look forward to acting as a young ambassador for engineering.''
