Bardsley scoops fifth X1 project

Tameside-based Bardsley Construction has secured its fifth contract with property developer X1 Developments after being appointed to build 140 apartments at X1 The Exchange in Salford Quays.

The £13.6m scheme involves the construction of one- and two-bedroom apartments and a residents' gym in an 11-storey block on an old car park site.

Work has recently started on site with the scheme due for completion in April 2016. The homes will be available for private rent.

Other schemes by Bardsley for X1 Developments include a £7.6m project at X1 The Edge in Liverpool to construct a 231-bedroom student accommodation block; the £6.7m redevelopment of the grade two-listed X1 Manchester Town Hall and Magistrates Court into 125 apartments; a £4.7m 160-bed student accommodation block at X1 Arndale House, Liverpool; and a £3.45m scheme to construct a five-storey, 109-bed student development at X1 Chapel Street, Salford.

Melissa Green, head of operations at X1 Developments, said: "Following the success of our previous four contracts for Bardsley Construction we're now looking forward to providing high quality accommodation for young professionals in the increasingly popular Salford Quays. X1 The Exchange provides X1 with the ability to further extend its portfolio into an area of rapid rejuvenation."
