Network Space eyes revamp of Cartwright’s Alty HQ

Having exchanged contracts to buy the former manufacturing facility as part of administration proceedings, the developer wants to refurbish the 11-acre Atlantic Street site to plug a hole in the local economy.

Altrincham-based trailer manufacturer Cartwright Group appointed Deloitte as administrator last September, citing the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic as the primary cause of the company’s collapse.

“At its peak, some 700 people would have been employed by Cartwright in Altrincham. The closure of the business has undoubtedly left a hole in the local economy,” said Richard Ainscough, managing director of Network Space.

The developer plans to refurbish the site, which features 220,000 sq ft of warehouses and manufacturing facilities, and expects the project to complete next year.

The scheme is to feature a mix of small and mid-box logistics space, “as well as traditional multi-let industrial estate uses”, according to Network Space.

“There is a well-documented shortage of light industrial space in the urban environment,” Ainscough said.

“This [project] will hopefully go some way to create new jobs at the site by attracting a mix of local, regional and national occupiers. We aim to be on site as soon as possible.”

Savills and Gateley acted for Network Space, B8, SIA Group and Addleshaw Goddard acted for the administrators.

Would be a great place for Altrincham Glass to move to, leaving their old place for housing development thus separating Industry from housing stock.
