Mulbury ups homes under construction to 650

Lymm-based developer Mulbury has increased the number of homes it has under construction to 650 after starting on four housing schemes across Greater Manchester, Cheshire, and Merseyside worth a combined £30m.

The four schemes will provide 245 new homes and take the current number of houses currently under construction by Mulbury up to 650. The developer also has 550 more units in the pipeline over the next 12 months.

The largest of the four sites is in Southport, where Mulbury is working on a site next to Southport Hospital on behalf of Torus Housing Group.

In Warrington, Mulbury is building 46 new homes on the site of the former Hawthorne Business Park for Plus Dane Housing.

Mulbury has also started two smaller projects – a 24-home development for private sale off Willows Road in Salford for its own residential arm Mulbury Living; and a 22-home project for Trafford Housing Trust off Lock Lane in Partington.

All four projects started on site in October.

Greg Mulligan, co-founder and director of Mulbury, said: “We continue to enjoy steady and sustainable growth and we’re entering another exciting period for the business.

“In the affordable housing sector, demand for new sites from housing providers remains high and there’s a variety of funders willing to invest in new schemes.

“As well as our work for housing providers, we’re developing a greater number of sites for private sale and our city centre residential also has a strong pipeline. Having completed two forward-funded deals with two separate institutional investors in the last 12 months, we remain confident about funder appetite in the North West build-to-rent market.”

As well as its housing developments in the North West, Mulbury has also recently started on its second private-rented scheme in Ancoats, Manchester, with Bardsley acting as main contractor.

The Blossom Street scheme, designed by Tim Groom Architects, will provide 143 apartments across two separate blocks of eight and seven storeys.

Bardsley is already building Mulbury’s first PRS scheme in the city, a 135-unit project at Port Street, funded by M&G Real Estate for completion in summer 2018.
