Morris Homes reacts to growing sales

Independent housebuilder Morris Homes has released second quarter data suggesting increasing demand for new properties.

Morris Homes says it is stepping up its build programme after reporting a 54% year-on-year increase in new home sales during the three months to the end of June.

The Cheshire company is already operating across 40 developments and plans to open a further 12 sites during the next six months in Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Lancashire, Birmingham, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire.

The new developments will provide work for up to 700 site-based contractors.

Mike Gaskell, managing director of Morris Homes, said: "All of the indicators suggest that the mid-term outlook for new home sales is very positive. We've seen stronger levels of buyer confidence and the benefits of the Government's Help to Buy scheme, which has unlocked mortgage finance for many people previously unable to meet lenders' deposit criteria.

"Encouragingly, the excellent sales performance in the first quarter of our current financial year is continuing and we are seeing consistently high visitor levels and reservations across all of our sites.

"Our strategy of continuing to buy land during the downturn at attractive prices has given us a strong long-term land bank for development and we're investing in a large number of new sites which will open for sales over the next six months.

"By the end of this calendar year we will be selling at more than 50 sites across our core regions and extending into new development areas where there's strong demand for the quality homes that Morris has a reputation for building."
