MMU launches search for John Dalton team

Manchester Metropolitan University is looking to appoint an architect and project management advisors for the remodelling and extension of the John Dalton West building to deliver a 270,000 sq ft Faculty of Science and Engineering.

The John Dalton West site within the All Saints Campus includes the teaching block, greenhouse, out-buildings and car park.

According to tender documents, the university's aim is to "provide, state of the art teaching and learning facilities within a world-class building with inclusive, uplifting and iconic architecture, flexible/easily adaptable engineering solutions and to achieve ambitious sustainability targets to reduce our carbon footprint".

The building will include accommodation for support services, alongside a 500-seat lecture theatre space to be used by all faculties on the campus.

The project is due to be completed by September 2020.

Alongside a lead architect, the project management team services required are quantity surveying, mechanical and electrical engineering, civil engineering, structural engineering and principal design.

The deadline for completion of pre-qualification questionnaires is noon on 18 May 2015.

A spokesperson for Manchester Metropolitan University said: "Following the successful completion of the first phase of our estates plan, we are now moving into phase two where we plan to spend around £200m over the next eight to 10 years. This capital investment programme is still at an early stage of development, but will include remodelling and expansion of the John Dalton building which houses our Faculty of Science and Engineering."

That building was only over clad very recently!

I understand the overclad building will remain with the low building and car park making way for the new build.
