McCarthy Stone plans 36 Alsager bungalows

Cheshire East Council will need to give consent for the development of Excalibur Industrial Estate off Fields Road into a specialised older living scheme.

McCarthy Stone’s proposal for 36 single-storey adapted homes specifically accommodates older living, with comprehensive wheelchair access, easy-turn taps, and wider doorways.

The retirement living specialist expects the scheme to free up housing on the open market.

BM3 Architecture has designed each bungalow to have a dedicated private parking space and a garden.

David Major, development director for McCarthy Stone, said: “Our proposals provide a fantastic opportunity to deliver much-needed retirement living bungalows in Alsager.

“Our plans for Alsager provide a valuable opportunity to improve the health and wellbeing of local older people, while also supporting significant cost savings to the NHS and local social care services.”

McCarthy Stone has already carried out a consultation, which it says was well received by residents. Plans were submitted to Cheshire East Council by The Planning Bureau.

He continued: “There is a real need for specialist retirement accommodation in Alsager, and this proposal would go some way to addressing that, while at the same time releasing existing family homes onto the market and relieving the pressure on local greenfield sites.

“As recognised in the local plan, there is a need for specialist retirement accommodation in Alsager. We look forward to working closely with Cheshire East Council to progress these proposals and to address this local need.”

McCarthy Stone is active across the North West. Currently, plans for 46 older-living apartments are being progressed in Bromborough, while 53 retirement homes in Congleton were approved by Cheshire East Council in April.

The application can be viewed using the planning reference number 25/2173/FUL on Cheshire East Council’s planning portal.
