McAlpine restarts stalled Salford scheme

Contractor Sir Robert McAlpine has started work on the 505-home Affinity Living Riverside and Riverview scheme in Salford, around six months after replacing collapsed contractor Carillion on the job.

McAlpine was announced by developer Select Property as the main contractor for the project in March last year, following the collapse of Carillion. Work had already started on site at the time of Carillion’s liquidation, including the partial construction of one of the concrete cores alongside some of the cladding.

The project includes the 35-storey Riverview tower, featuring 320 apartments alongside the 17-storey Riverside building comprising 185 apartments.

Following Carillion’s collapse, work stopped on site for around six months to allow for a full review of the project, but McAlpine has this month recommenced work with workers now back on site. The scheme was originally set to complete on site later this year, but it now has a revised completion date of 2019.

Select Property secured planning consent for the scheme in July 2016.
