Liverpool Hilton up for sale

JLL has been appointed to find a buyer for the 221-bed asset, currently owned by Ability Hotels.

Ability acquired the hotel on Liverpool’s Thomas Steers Way in 2009 for £39.4m, according to Land Registry filings, and is reportedly seeking £60m for it.

Developed by Grosvenor as part of Liverpool ONE and constructed between 2007 and 2009, the hotel is operated by Hilton. At the time of the deal, the hotel was Hilton’s first in Liverpool. The group has since added a Doubletree on Sir Thomas Street.

The successful buyer would also take ownership of 47 apartments as part of the building, as well as more than 8,000 sq ft of events space.

Marketing materials for Project Beatle prepared by JLL describe the hotel as “best in class” and located in “one of England’s largest football and cultural hubs”.

The hotel is located next door to Canning Place, the former Merseyside Police HQ, which is earmarked for redevelopment.

There’s also a Hampton by Hilton near the Baltic Fleet pub, but in terms of higher profile Hilton it’s odd that they’re selling up.

I would love to know who the other bidders were !! I would also like to know Emily Spurrals reasons for awarding the contract to Homes England. Also what experience has she in handling a major contract of this size. We must get it right.

Surely such a popular and prominent hotel will be snapped up soon. As regards Canning Place that seems to be going nowhere thanks to the Police Commissioner whose agenda was to keep it under public ownership, and it’s in the pending tray with Kings Dock, Williamson Square, Festival Gardens, etc.

Very unattractive hotel more like a high rise block of flats on a council estate

By Dino

Why describe the hotel as unattractive, the architect Squire and Partners have a reputation at home and abroad and have a recognised style. I think the building is now a landmark with it’s well known curve, but the area behind needs an upgrade and that old Police HQ needs to be removed and replaced.

The Ex Police HQ sits in a extremely prominent and significant location this opportunity should be seen as a priority for the city and waterfront . No time to play politics with it lets hope someonce of quality like Davos get involved .

Dino must have been brought up on a posher council estate than the rest of us.
