Liverpool FC institution up for grabs at £3.75m

The Sandon Complex, a rejuvenated matchday hospitality venue where the football club’s formation documents were signed in 1892, is on the market.

Christie & Co is marketing the Oakfield Road site on behalf of entrepreneur Kate Stewart, who bought the site in 2017 and instigated an overhaul.

Now classed as the first official offsite partner of LFC, the Sandon houses five function rooms and a revamped pub, along with 123 hotel bed spaces across 20 rooms. Planning has been secured for six further rooms.

The complex has capacity for up to 4,500 people

The original hotel was owned by John Houlding, who founded LFC when Anfield’s original tenant Everton moved to Goodison Park.

Anfield itself is now undergoing its latest improvement scheme, with Buckingham Group now contracted to deliver the £60m Anfield Road expansion.

Stewart said: “Since purchasing The Sandon in 2017, I have given it the TLC that it needed, regularly investing in the hospitality suites and creating a hotel.

“The Sandon is an institution for football fans, and I have loved welcoming Liverpool FC fans from all over the world, but I’ve made the difficult decision to retire from the hospitality sector.”

Tom O’Malley, associate director in Christie & Co’s hospitality team, is handling the sale. He added: “With its historical associations and contracts with Liverpool FC, along with its proximity to Anfield Stadium, this multi-faceted business is an exciting and rare opportunity.

“We are currently seeing increased demand for wet-led public houses, so we expect the sale to attract attention from a wide variety of buyers.”

The Sandon Complex is offered on a freehold basis, with an asking price of £3.75m.
