Liverpool approves Aintree Hospital emergency department extension
Mission Mars’ application to change the use of Radiant House was also signed off by the city council’s planning committee today.
Aintree Hospital Emergency Department Extension
IBI Group’s designs for a three-storey extension to the teaching hospital’s emergency department sailed through planning. The application includes the construction of two hybrid operating theatres and the refurbishment of the existing first-floor theatres. The £16m project will see the increased capacity of ambulance drop-off bays.
The Liverpool University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust estimates that the work will reduce wait times for patients. Currently, it treats more than 89,000 patients a year.
Tilbury Douglas is the principle supply chain partner for the scheme, while IBI is both the architect and lead consultant.
Now that it is approved, work on the project is expected to complete by 2023.
In the future, the hospital plans on continuing its expansion efforts, eventually remodelling the ground floor of the maternity block into stroke ward services.

Radiant House
Mission Mars, the company behind brands Rudy’s and Albert’s Schloss, has secured permission to change Radiant House from a Class E building into a restaurant and bar with two ground floor retail units.
The seven-storey Radiant House sits at 18-26 Bold Street in Liverpool. Vacant for years, its basement and ground floor were previously a food market, while its first floor was an Argos until 2015.
Mission Mars wants to turn the building’s basement, ground floor, mezzanine and part of its first floor into a restaurant and bar with a stage for local artists to perform. There would also be a photobooth, according to the application, which was submitted by Firstplan for the company.
Elsewhere in the North West, Mission Mars founders Joel Wilkinson and Adele Winter have unveiled plans to redevelop a former foundry in Manchester into a beer hall and night market.

Radiant House is/was a gem of a building ,so pleased that a serious operator will occupy a section of the site, if only the upper floors could be used as hotel or residential that would be the icing on the cake. Your photo might be a bit dated as I have a feeling the back section got demolished, if so what a loss, as this was the old headquarters of the gas board and the internal areas, including the boardroom, were something to behold.
