Krol Corlett delivers for Tarporley High School

The contractor has completed a £2.6m teaching wing at the Cheshire school, a 9,000 sq ft building designed by architect Brock Carmichael.

The building provides 12 modern classrooms, two of which are designed for advanced digital learning, as well as accessible toilets and storage areas, giving the 1,210-pupil school a boost.

Tarporley High School is one of the four schools – two primary, two secondary – run by Sandstone Trust in the area.

Headteacher Jonathan Deakin said of the project: “It really supports the continued growth and success of our school. With the school now full, it was important to have more room for everyone to work, learn and collaborate.

“This new environment gives staff and students more space to thrive and enjoy outstanding teaching and learning. I’d like to thank Sandstone Trust for their continued support, and Krol Corlett and Brock Carmichael for their care and professionalism.”

The extension replaces 10 ageing mobile classrooms with a permanent building designed  to support learning.

Krol Corlett’s build programme was carried out in a ‘live’ school environment, with uninterrupted access for pupils, parents and staff throughout.

Site manager Anthony Gerrard said: “Delivering projects in live education settings is something we take great pride in. At Tarporley, close collaboration with the school meant we could complete the work safely and efficiently, with no disruption to learning.”

Thomas Bromley of Brock Carmichael added: “The new building makes for a much more productive learning environment. The block replaces 10 mobile classrooms, which had come to the end of their lives and will be much more conducive to learning.

“The new wing boasts state-of-the-art building ventilation and draws on the heat in the external air to heat the building and running water. We’ve also installed solar panels on the roof to make the new unit as close to net zero as possible.”
