Kier kicks on with 100,000 sq ft Sharston industrial refresh

Work to demolish 130,000 sq ft of units at the end of their lifespan has completed. The construction of £26m of replacement stock is set to begin in the new year.

Kier Property has secured planning approval for its Trade City & Logistics City scheme on Sharston Industrial Estate, having acquired the four-acre site from Siemens subsidiary Electrium earlier this year.

The development will feature:

  • Eight Trade City units ranging from 5,391 to 11,664 sq ft. These units are designed for SMEs, trade counters, and light industrial occupiers.
  • One Logistics City unit of 34,584 sq ft.

In total, the scheme will provide 98,000 sq ft employment space and construction is programmed to begin in Q1 2026, following completion of the enabling works.

The scheme is similar to another Kier delivered in Cheetham Hill, which completed in November 2024 and provides 94,000 sq ft of accommodation.

Leigh Thomas, group managing director at Kier Property, said: “Reaching planning and completing demolition enables us to move confidently into the next phase of delivering much-needed, high-quality space in a prime South Manchester logistics location.

“Our new Trade City and Logistics City scheme in Sharston will provide modern, efficient units for SME’s, trade counter and logistics operators looking for strong connectivity, sustainability and proximity to key regional markets.”

JLL and Savills have been appointed as joint agents for the scheme.

Alex Palfreyman, director at Savills, added: “This is an important milestone for the project which will provide some welcome supply in a constrained logistics and trade counter market in South Manchester.”
