JLL picks Devany to succeed retiring Mulcahy

James Devany will replace Chris Mulcahy as head of JLL’s Manchester office agency team, a role the latter has held for the last 25 years.

Devany, who has been with JLL for more than a decade, will take the reins in March 2026 following a period of transition.

During his quarter of a century as JLL’s offices point man in Manchester, Mulcahy has advised on of some of the city’s largest commercial schemes. These include New Bailey, Circle Square, NOMA, and First Street.

He has also led on many of Manchester’s biggest deals of recent years, including Bank of New York Mellon’s 200,000 sq ft deal at NOMA and Roku’s move to Circle Square.

“It’s been a real privilege to work alongside so many great clients, colleagues and consultants over the years,” Mulcahy said. “I’ve been fortunate to play a part in some incredible schemes that have transformed the city.

“The time feels right to hand over the reins, and I’m really proud that our succession plan sees James step into the lead role. He’s someone I’ve worked closely with for over a decade, and I have every confidence in him and the team to keep driving things forward.”

Devany was full of praise for his predecessor, while looking ahead to a bright future for the office sector in Manchester.

“Chris has set an incredible benchmark and helped build one of the most respected teams in the market,” he said.

“I’m excited to continue that legacy with our brilliant team and valued clients.

“Manchester has changed so much in recent years – it’s now arguably the most exciting office market outside London, and with some major new developments on the horizon, I’m confident the best is still to come.”
