James Industrial proposes demolition of Blackburn Perspex site
The developer has requested permission to knock down Orchard Mill in Darwen.
Bolton-based James Industrial is named on an application lodged with Blackburn with Darwen Council seeking consent to demolish the vacant buildings on the 6.4-acre former Perspex site off Duckworth Street.
Perspex vacated the site as part of a consolidation of its estate. The firm is progressing plans to invest £40m delivering a 13,000 sq ft extension at its Goose House Lane complex.
As part of the strategy, Perspex has sold the Orchard Mill site. Now, James Industrial appears to be working up proposals to redevelop the plot.
Steven Abbot Associates is advising James Industrial on the scheme. No plans have been submitted for new buildings on the site.
Elsewhere in the region, James Industrial completed the refurbishment of the 154,000 sq ft former Alcan factory in Whitehaven in 2023.
Like Orchard Mill, the Whitehaven site had been vacant for some time when the developer stepped in to acquire it.
