HE Simm braces for administration

The Liverpool-based M&E engineering firm has filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators.

Founded in 1948, HE Simm is a family-run firm with offices in Liverpool, London, and Manchester.

After 77 years of trading, a notice of intention to appoint administrators – often the precursor to administration proper – has been filed in court.

Hill Dickinson is representing HE Simm.

The company was contacted for comment.

Gareth Simm, grandson of founder Ernie Simm, is the company’s chief executive. His brother Greg is managing director. Martyn Simm and Vicky Simm are also directors.

The last available financial results for HE Simm show a significant year-on-year revenue increase from £54m in 2022 to £118m in 2023. However, the firm made a n £8.9m pre-tax loss in 2023 up from a £715,000 profit the year before.

At the time, the company blamed the loss on inflation and some problem projects in London.

Let’s hope that HE Simms can be saved, a lot of people in the Industry have advanced their careers having been trained by Simms. I feel for the family just now.

Very sad news
The family values of the company are second to none – looking after their staff and truly caring – an unfortunate set of circumstances have led to their demise
I for one will be eternally greatful for the opportunities they have provided for me over many years

Worked with some brilliant HE Simm people on projects. A great company that got things done right. Such a shame.

If local authorities in the Liverpool City Region monitored and enforced section 106 agreements for developers to use local skills, perhaps they wouldn’t have relied so much on London projects that have been a problem here. A lot of people are looking for new jobs,. Asad Say indeed.

A sad day! HE Simm used to be a familiar sight around Liverpool. So sorry they are in this position and hope they can be saved!
