Approval for Primus’ Lancaster student flats
The city council this week gave planning consent to two blocks containing a total of 388 studios off Bulk Road and Parliament Street, designed by Tim Groom Architects.
The approved scheme is a scaled-back version of Primus Property Group’s earlier proposal for 441 purpose-built student accommodation studios. The height of the scheme has also been reduced following a public consultation and feedback from Lancaster City Council’s conservation team.
Under the approved plans, an existing carpet store and car wash are to be demolished and two buildings constructed – one eight storeys high and the other six storeys.
There would also be communal facilities, new pedestrian access, public realm, and landscaping.
The largest block is to comprise 284 studios and is located on the corner of Bulk Road and Caton Street.
The second block, stepped in height at five and six storeys, would provide the remaining 133 studios and occupy a vacant site between Farmfoods and the former Kashis restaurant on Parliament Street.
The scheme was approved with conditions by the council on Monday night. Stride Treglown is advising Primus on the development.

I hope one of the conditions is the inclusion of proper drop off spaces for Deliveroo etc – they have a habit of blocking traffic on Bulk Road in the early evening.
