Grangefield create city’s first health mall

Grangefield Estates has submitted a planning application for a 4m sq ft mixed-use health complex, office, leisure, accommodation and hotel scheme in Ardwick, Manchester.

Irish property entrepreneurs Austin Kenny and Brian McDonagh, who own the firm, want to build the project on a 34-acre site – of which the pair already own around 65% – near to the city's Piccadilly Station.

The first phase of the scheme, Chancellor Place, will feature a 300,000 sq ft health complex, which will be anchored by private sector health providers. Grangefield is currently trying to line up American health companies to anchor the scheme.

San Francisco-based architecture consultancy EDAW has masterplanned the site and the scheme is backed by the New East Manchester urban regeneration company.
