General Store opens at Deansgate Square

The latest branch of the local chain takes up 4,500 sq ft of Renaker’s Manchester towers, bringing with it an alcohol emporium and coffee shop.

General Store is a twist on the concept of the corner shop, offering the convenience store essentials alongside locally-crafted baked goods, beers and more. Located on the ground floor of the amenity building, it’s open to both Deansgate Square residents and the public as of 19 August.

“We’ve long admired how General Store creates beating hearts at the centre of their neighbourhoods,” said Renaker’s senior development manager James Sidlow. “We hope they, along with the host of other well-loved Manchester brands still to be announced, will bring all this and more to Deansgate Square.”

The Deansgate Square location is designed by Youth Studios, who have decked it out with neon lights and a ticker-tape LED display.

Portuguese bakery Just Natas and Café Lupo Italiano are expected to make appearances at the store, bringing with them their fresh baked goods. Other brands in stock include Nell’s Pizza, The Great North Pie Company and Ancoats Coffee.

In addition to the alcohol emporium and its tasting area, the shop has a coffee shop and zero-waste essential household refill stations.

The brand is expanding rapidly, with locations in MediaCityUK and Ancoats, with another set to soon open at Kampus. General Store food halls are also opening in Sale and Northwich this year.

General Store is part of Store Group, founded by Mital Morar. Other brands include the A Convenient Store delivery service.

Looks expensive…I’d also be keen to see updated pictures of the fruit stand in a few months.

Shame they couldn’t get a taproom/Foodhall in here like at Stretford. Plenty of units available
