GALLERY | Oldham Town Hall cinema welcomes 300,000th visitor
Oldham’s revamped Town Hall will complete its food and drink offering with an additional tenant in the New Year, after the development’s cinema welcomed its 300,000th visitor this month.
The £37m project, designed by BDP and built by Morgan Sindall, was refurbished over a three-year period and opened its doors in October 2016.
The grade two-listed building has been out of use since 1995, but now includes a seven-screen Odeon alongside a restaurant complex housing brands including Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Nando’s.
It is understood the final available restaurant unit has now been let to an ice cream parlour, which will be confirmed in the New Year. The scheme also provides a public square and a Costa café.
Oldham Council is also in discussions with interested parties about the let for the building’s restored Egyptian Room, with the council still looking for “exactly the right tenant”.
BDP Manchester studio chairman Gavin Elliott said: “To receive so many awards for the regeneration of Oldham Town Hall is something we are all really proud of.
“It is a massive achievement to have been able to transform it into a fantastic public place that people of Oldham will be able to enjoy for years to come.”
The scheme also picked up a number of awards this year including the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce’s Building of the Year.
