Food market among proposals for Trafford Centre car park venture
A temporary outdoor attraction called Trafford Live that features food traders, fairground rides and a pop-up beach could be built in front of the retail complex.
An application lodged by the Trafford Centre’s owners seeks permission from the local council to use Orient car parks 10 and 11 to house the events concept.
The plans come hot on the heels of another scheme aimed at boosting revenue by finding a new use for underused car parks at the shopping centre. Earlier this week Place North West reported that electric car firm Tesla was to open a showroom and collection hub on a 470-space car park that previously served the recently closed Debenhams store.
The latest car park plan aims to give people to opportunity to enjoy themselves in a safe and secure environment after a barren year socially, according to Pradera Lateral, the Trafford Centre’s asset manager.
A planning statement prepared by Pradera, said: “Consumers have missed out on a year of socialising and enjoying themselves. Against this backdrop, the temporary events space will provide an exciting leisure opportunity for visitors to the Trafford Centre.”
The 4.2-acre site, located close to the Great Hall entrance to the Trafford Centre, will comprise two elements.
Orient Car Park 11 would be used to accommodate an outdoor pop-up food and beverage facility, to be operated by The Bus Business and Angelic Food Mobile Company. The food market would have capacity for 3,000 people.
The traders are to be based in repurposed buses, vans, and other vehicles and would provide a variety of street food options.
The centre of the market is to feature a 3,000 sq ft “multiuse weatherproof structure” to be used as a covered seating area and for a variety of events and activities including exercise classes, fashion shows, and private dining.
In addition, Orient Car Park 10 is to feature a pop-up beach and fairground rides. Five Star Entertainment is to manage the funfair element of the scheme.
It is envisaged that Trafford Live will be in use from 1 July 2021 until 7 November 2021, freeing up the car parks for the busier Christmas trading period.
Let’s hope that the wind isn’t blowing the wrong way and the smell of the sewage works isn’t strong when people are dining! Once you hit that dip from the M60 it gets you by the throat in the mornings!

I live in Davyhulme about 1.5 mile from the sewage work. Years back there was a smell but as time has gone by its become less and less, now its a rare occurrence to get a pong.
