First major development at ID Manchester comes forward
Bruntwood SciTech and the University of Manchester have opened a consultation on plans to redevelop a gateway site within the £1.7bn masterplan and deliver a “flagship commercial office building”.
The ID Manchester joint venture is inviting input into its ideas for an area to the west of the 4m sq ft innovation district known as Zone C, which sits off Altrincham Street and London Road.
The early thinking is to deliver a commercial complex that could accommodate 4,000 jobs.
The planned office building would provide “flexible space suited to a range of occupiers including large national and international businesses”, according to consultation materials.
As well as large businesses, the scheme could provide a home for scale-ups that have grown from the Renold Innovation Hub, which is located next door and due to complete later this year.
The flagship office would be complemented by ground floor retail and leisure spaces along Altrincham Street and a “multi-functional civic square” that would host a range of events and activities for the city.
ID Manchester benefits from investment zone status and sits at the centre of a 500-acre advanced manufacturing and materials innovation zone that also incorporates Mayfield and the University of Salford.
Bruntwood SciTech was contacted for comment.
It’s hard to market offices in the city when the council can’t be bothered keeping the place clean

They really should get going on this, I’ve been hearing about this ID for years and nothing happens.

Are there any other large development sites in the city centre offering ‘ flexible space suited to a range of occupiers including large national and international businesses’. There seems to be a mismatch in supply vs demand here.
Asking for a friend.

UMIST was always known for being very ugly and depressing

This is a very important site. With so much innovation in Manchester I hope the vision is realised and not pared down. Good start though.

C’mon. Get a move on.

I agree Manchester as a whole with developments needs to be kept clean and green as well. It’s shocking how much litter there is about.

The pathways and pavements need updating around the city, compared to london we look like we got the pavements of fleetwood. A lot of the Manchester City pavements and pedestrianised areas needs changing.

The Council cant be bothered keepting the place clean. Marketist Osborne cut central government (that is where all our taxed trickle down to) funding of local councils by a third or more to kill local democracy and especially Labour local government. The free-market and capital rule. Now folk are complaining that town coucils have no money for street cleaning. You get what you vote for.
