Innovation in Property is all about looking at the innovations that are changing the way we design, build, and live. This is an event for the forward-focussed, who want to learn more about how to make their business and developments fit for the future.

Expect a deep dive into the latest research from University of Salford’s Energy House 2.0. Now a year in, the results from experiments from Barratt Developments, Bellway Homes, Saint-Gobain, and Vector Homes have been analysed and are ready for publication. This is your chance to hear it straight from those involved as to what worked, what did not, and what the experiments mean for the future of our homes.

Artificial intelligence is fast becoming a valuable tool for those in the property world. Hear from those experimenting in AI about the real world implications of the technology. Whether you are an AI devotee or skeptic, you will walk away with valuable insight into how it is being incorporated in the industry.

Innovation in Property will be held on 19 September at Innside by Melia in Manchester. Starting at 8am, this half-day conference will include a mixture of engaging presentations, dynamic panels, and, of course, plenty of time for networking.

Confirmed speakers

Professor Will Swan is the director of Energy House Labs at the University of Salford. The Energy House programme includes multiple projects, including Energy House, which includes an entire Victoria house in a climate-controlled chamber; the Smart Meters>Smart Homes Laboratory, where researchers work with companies to explore their products and services; and Energy House 2.0, a research facility that, like its predecessor, allows businesses and researchers to explore different technology in a climate-controlled chamber. Swan is also a member of the National Energy Efficiency Taskforce.

Amit Puri is the head of technical solutions at Autodesk Construction EMEA. Autodesk is a global leader in providing software products and services for those in architecture, construction, engineering, and manufacturing. Puri has spent his career working on building and infrastructure projects, having joined the tech space in the past few years. He is passionate about helping clients with their digital transformation.

Josh Sykes is a technical director at WSP. He specialises in helping projects achieve their net zero carbon and sustainability goals through design, technology, systems, and innovation. With an eye on the future, Sykes works alongside researchers at UK universities on a range of topics including predictive control, scalable IoT solutions, and cyber security. Expect to hear Sykes discuss WSP’s Daisy, a parametric design tool that uses AI to help optimise projects.

Professor Richard Kingston teaches urban planning at the University and Manchester and is the director of the £8m NERC Digital Solutions Programme. He is also director of the university’s digital futures platform. At NERC, he and his team are working to make more than 40 peta-bytes of data available to non-academics to support decision-making across the UK and beyond.

Tom Cox is a construction solutions director at Saint-Gobain. Saint-Gobain has been working with Barratt Developments, experimenting with materials and off-site construction can help create energy-efficient and sustainable homes at scale. Expect Cox to share how Saint-Gobain products around plaster, glass, timber frames, and brick are making a difference.

Adrian Lonsdale is an associate director at Bennetts Associates. He specialises in low-carbon workplace design and has expertise in working with full timber construction, earth construction, and straw-insulated panels. This enables him to build sustainability into the very fabric of his designs. At this event, you can expect to hear more about Bennetts’ work with Earth Blocks, which utilise site subsoil as a material.

Nathan Feddy is the chief executive and co-founder of Vector Homes. Vector Homes is an ambitious Manchester-based company on a mission to cut carbon, cost, and complexity in construction. At Energy House 2.0, the company trialled a flat-pack bungalow. Prior to founding Vector Homes, he worked as a nanomaterials scientist in the Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre scaling technologies for companies ranging from startups to blue chips. He also worked as the international business developer for the Graphene Flagship, a €1bn initiative dedicated by the EU to scaling up nanomaterial products.
