Eric Wright completes £5m West Kirby health and wellbeing centre
The contractor has delivered the 24,000 sq ft clinic in the Wirral town located off Orrysdale Road, just 12 months after work started on site.
Marine Lake Health and Wellbeing Centre is being delivered in partnership between Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, Marine Lake and Estuary Medical Practice, and Age UK Wirral.
Gilling Dod Architects designed the £5m scheme, which features 20 doctors’ consulting rooms and a community-led space, as well as support accommodation offices and meeting rooms for the local NHS trust.
The three-storey facility is complemented by a well-being garden, which features places for local people to grow their own vegetables and mixed-use space.
Marine Lake Medical Practice, which currently operates from premises on Grange Road in West Kirby, will occupy the facility now that Eric Wright Construction has completed the build.
The West Kirby centre will allow extended hours and increased capacity, on top of access to specialist health and care services.
Eric Wright was chosen as contractor in November 2020 and work commenced last April.
Nick Galvin, project manager for Eric Wright Construction, said: “To have delivered this superb facility in little over twelve months is testament to the high level of collaboration and hard work across entire project team…
“It was quite a challenging site due to the confined space and proximity to residential properties but we’re really proud to see Marine Lake open and functioning so soon after starting work.”
The rest of the project team for Marine Lake Health and Wellbeing Centre includes structural engineer Bradshaw, Gass & Hope Structural Engineers, mechanical engineer West Lancashire Group, and fire engineer Hoare Lea.
Michael Brown, Chairman of Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, added: “This represents a fundamental investment in local health and care and will transform how people receive care closer to home.
“It marks a new chapter for the people of West Kirby and will significantly improve the way in which services are delivered and I’d like to thank all of the people who have worked so hard in the past year to deliver this superb facility.”
*ahem* Kirby

Corrected. Not sure how Knowsley sneaked into the Wirral on us there. Apologies for the error.

Much needed new facilities for West Kirby, convenient for the town centre and Merseyrail, what will happen to the vacated building which has a large , untidy piazza in front of it, I think flats would be a good solution, also the front of the station needs a re-think the landscaping looks a bit tired and unimaginative.
